CELEBRITY SPOTLIGHT: NEIL SEDAKA

As a long time client and friend of celebrity hairstylist Sergio Slavnov, Neil Sedaka is a strong supporter of Avenue Man hair products and Sergio’s unparalleled talent for cutting and styling men’s hair (after all, he has been his own hair stylist for years). As a result, Neil enthusiastically produced the video introduction of Avenue Man Hair Products by putting a spin on one of his biggest hits, “Laughter in the Rain”. 

Sergio spent years traveling with Mr. Sedaka to all corners of the world styling his hair flawlessly for every performance and professional appearance. Sergio Slavnov even inspired Neil to write his famous album “Classically Sedaka”  during their travels together because of his love and passion for classical music. 

Impressive Beginnings 

From the young age of eight, Neil was engrossed in classical music that would have a major influence on his musical career. At age nine, he was already immersed in classical piano training at Julliard School of Music.

In high school, he started performing Rock N Roll and formed the vocal group The Tokens (a doo-wop band) that would go on to record two hit singles. At the time, Sedaka was also introduced to his younger neighbor Howard Greenfield, where an important songwriting partnership was formed (and went on to sell over 40 million records in less than five years). 

Professional Career

Neil wrote dozens of hit songs performed by famous artists in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Monkees, ABBA, Barbara Streisand, Sheryl Crow, The Carpenters, and more. 

With the release of a trio of critically acclaimed albums that gained major popularity in the UK in the 70s, none other than Elton John took notice of Neil’s incredible talents. He wasted no time signing him to his record label, Rocket Records and producing two successful albums — “Sedaka’s Back” and “The Hungry Years.” 

These hit records were also proceeded by successful songs like “Bad Blood” and “Laughter in the Rain,” which both reached #1 on the charts. 

In the 90s, Neil turned to his roots and produced a classical album that adapted melodies from world-renowned classical composers.
